Book Chameleon - 2nd edition is a revised & greatly enlarged version of CFR 's classic by the same name. It is a poetic versified version of the Chinese classic Yi King (or I Ching). Below each hexagram is a concise definition of his invention called the cube - explained in different aspects in other of his books. The Table of Contents is listed below.  This edition contains a complete dictionary in rime of the ming dialect of Chinese (which is useful in translating some of the projective geometry books.)  A companion website which shows the block working component of his teachings can be found here .

Really kewl! I notice there seems to be a limit to how many Ming words can be submitted at once. Thanks, this will be a very useful tool and save the pages of my BC2.

I will look into that.  I did not put a limit in the code. Maybe the edit box size limits the number of words.  Practically speaking you should probably keep the translation to a sentence or two. If you misspell a word & it is NOT in the Ming dictionary it is ignored. The translate button doesn't yet let the input stay around so you need to copy it to the clipboard just in case of misspellings.  I have started to use it to translate the Projective Geometry book Dragon Pearls to expose what the paragraph subjects are etc.  I have found that, due to Our Friend's predilictions, that I need to add more ming words which magically appear in the verses to the original phrases & then do a re-translation.  Good Luck!

It's a very helpful tool although I understand very little about the mechanics of it.  Heck, it outputs pretty well. What more could you ask for except maybe the matching Chinese characters?


Speaking of Dragon Pearls, the very first sentence is the one I tried out:

"Chuh shu suk chun booy fat way maw."

The translator got all but the last word, "maw." So I then typed maw into the cleared box and up it came.  So not sure what limit I hit there besides a fumble-finger (got an icon for that?sheepish grinn)

Thanks for the ctrl-c tip on the sentence. You can also use the "back" button on your browser to re-claim the previous.  I've noticed the same thing about the recursive quality of the dictionaries.  Kinda like his shing, but with words...

I noticed that if you put a period at the end it does not look up that word.  You may want to replace punctuation with white space.

You can echo the post variable back into the form like this:

If you put a period after a word the parser looks up the word "word."  which does not exist in the dictionary. I don't use punctuation.

This works:

The problem was that you had included sapces in the textarea.  See it translating sum at robustai.net.

BTW, there are exactly 1012 ming words in the database.  If anyone finds one that is missing let me know. I found two that were misstyped in the spreadsheet & fixed them.

The ming characters is a  thing.  It's a lot of busy work . Scan BC2 and then cut up the pages into individual characters & then put them into the database.
Actually all you need is the scans in some directory.  Then the rest is just programming them to show ... the PHP code to display them would be somethintg like:

printf('<img src="http://icybermind.net/mingcharacters/%s.jpg">',$ming) ;

where $ming holds the ming word.

If you spend the time to do the scan i would take the time to convert them to  transparent gif files ... that way we could come up with a code snippit that would put a ming saying against any background ... ever the cartoon maker.   Another approach might be to look up the characters in unicode and put those codes in the db ... that way you may not need to scan at all; but the scanning would certainly come up with a better result and stick more to the original masterpiece.

Well, Breck [ming chay chun] back to you for using this port.  No html is allowed in the comments because of spammers. Simple way is to use the wiki references which is to put the word ming in front of a bunch of ming words between brackets as per example. Other way is to use the rich text example and select a bunch of words in a sentence and use the

  button to paste your link url.

wizzardI don't see why we couldnt set you up with a ftp directory to start putting these into.  Then  we could write an interface to these even before they are all there.  I would like to see just a fue first to make sure the formats are all correct.  No sense in doing a lot of scanning and then finding out that all the files need to be changed.  If you can make transparent gifs of the files, then they can be deployed against any background ... this would be very useful.
